Domaine Tessier: Pure Micro-Terroirs of Meursault
Meursault, Burgundy, France
At Domaine Tessier, winemaking centers on highlighting the distinct limestone nuances of Meursault’s finest slopes. Precise organic viticulture and minimal intervention in the cellar bring out the tension, depth, and aromatic purity of every parcel.
An Organic Pursuit
Arnaud Tessier and his wife Catherine guide the estate with a deep commitment to preserving vine health and soil biodiversity. Arnaud’s dedication runs deep: having started working in the vineyards at just 14 years old, he took over full responsibility of the family estate in his early 20s following the sudden passing of his father.
Today, the domaine practices organic farming across all its vineyard holdings, working the soils without synthetic chemicals or herbicides. Hand-harvesting and rigorous grape selection ensure that only pristine fruit enters the winery. Low yields keep the fruit concentrated, balanced, and full of site-specific character.
The High-Altitude Limestone and Premier Crus
The estate manages prime holdings across the varied slopes of Meursault. High-elevation parcels like Les Casse-Têtes feature shallow topsoils rich in hard limestone, yielding white wines marked by razor-sharp acidity and vibrant mineral drive.
Mid-slope Premier Crus like Le Poruzot Dessus, Les Charmes Dessus, and Les Genevrières combine clay-limestone complexity with solar exposure. These renowned sites produce Meursaults with dense mid-palate weight, golden orchard fruit, and refined structure.
In the Cellar
Arnaud and Catherine Tessier follow a low-intervention approach in the cellar to respect the raw purity of the Chardonnay fruit. Gentle pressing and slow, spontaneous fermentations with native yeasts preserve aromatic clarity.
The wines age in French oak barrels on their fine lees to build natural creaminess and texture. The oak treatment remains judicious, ensuring wood notes frame rather than overpower the underlying limestone minerality.
Capturing Individual Expression
Expect a signature profile defined by bright citrus, white flowers, hazelnut nuances, and a long, chalky mineral finish. Regional and village bottlings offer immediate vitality, while the Premier Crus possess immense aging potential.
Cellaring reveals rich secondary layers of toasted brioche, flint, and dried stone fruit across these classic expressions.
