BROVIA: Piedmont's Traditional Benchmark

Barolo, Piedmont, Italy

At Azienda Agricola Brovia, traditional winemaking and meticulous organic farming highlight the pure essence of Castiglione Falletto. Founded in 1863, this historic estate crafts deep, terroir-driven Barolos and pristine regional wines that rank among Piedmont’s finest.

A Century-Old Tradition

Giacinto Brovia re-established the estate in 1953, laying the foundation for modern recognition alongside his daughter Elena and her husband, Alex Sanchez. The family maintains an uncompromising dedication to classic Nebbiolo expression, working exclusively with estate-owned vineyards across renowned cru sites.

The family farms all vineyards organically without herbicides or synthetic treatments. Hand-harvesting and rigorous grape selection ensure that only pristine fruit enters the cellar.

The Great Crus of Castiglione Falletto and Serralunga

Brovia holds prime parcels across some of the most celebrated terroirs in the Langhe. Steep, high-elevation limestone and clay soils in Castiglione Falletto form the backbone of iconic sites like Villero and Rocche di Castiglione, yielding wines of intense aromatics and refined structure.

In Serralunga d’Alba, the heavy iron-rich soils of the Brea vineyard (Vigna Ca’Mia) produce Barolos with dark fruit depth, powerful muscle, and exceptional cellaring potential.

In the Cellar

The winemaking at Brovia remains steadfastly traditional. Fermentation occurs naturally with native yeasts in stainless steel and concrete tanks, accompanied by extended skin maceration lasting up to three weeks.

The Barolos age slowly in large, neutral Slavonian and French oak casks (botte grande) for at least two years. The family bottles all wines without fining or filtration, preserving maximum natural texture, aromatic clarity, and aging capacity.

Capturing Individual Expression

Expect a signature profile marked by dried rose petal, tar, red cherry, and crushed limestone minerality. Brovia’s wines showcase remarkable longevity, starting with vibrant regional expressions and culminating in deeply structured single-vineyard Barolos.

The regional bottlings Arneis, Dolcetto, Barbera, and Nebbiolo, offer immediate freshness and varietal typicity, while the single-cru Barolos demand time in the cellar to reveal their profound complexity.
